Thank you for giving the avenue of contact to your office. I am writing in response to the recent housing legislation presented to the Senate that was passed by the House. These two items, S2636 and S2488, are just more methods of facilitating more complexity into a system that needs to be simplified. By no means should the United States Government enter into affairs of the corporate world. Instead of creating an avenue where these lending practices should be punished, we want to bail out the banks who have created this crisis in the first place. The mortgage process is unfair to anyone. We cap out small loans at between 22 and 29 percent, yet we allow banks to to make more than 100% on their loans. If we want to truely do something for the American Public, we should be curbing banks profit margins on these loans. As a homeowner, it is disheartening to know that I will be paying $175,000 for an $80,000 loan, with no choice in the matter. I do not agree with bailing out people who are struggling with forclosure, or have forclosed house. I have picked up a second job to accomodate the lack of income presented to me with the rise of food costs, as well as gas costs. Our nation does not need more legislation/regulation in hopes of bailing corporations out of failures and bad practices. These companies need to be punished with the simple fact that they have done bad business, and have lost money. It is their fault. We should have compassion with people who have lost their homes due to the poor economy, which is a result of more corporate greed by transferring their businesses over to China causing major jobloss in America. We should be focusing on punishing companies who do this practice, and make it more expensive to have businesses overseas, that provide product to the American People. You should be focusing on the agenda of moving our economy forward. We should not be wasting time bailing out people who have or are in the process of losing their homes, with "Insurance" type policies. The United States government should be getting out of the "Bail Out" business. It is not the responsibilty of the government to babysit the public in their personal affairs. It is not the responsibility of the government to fix everyone's mistakes. It definitely should not be the business of government to bail out major corporations, for example the airline bailout several years ago. The government should get out of the business of giving away money to corporations no matter what effect it might have on the economy. If our economy is in such a bad shape, why are we not pushing for a second economic stimulus package? Nancy Peloski has already made mention of supporting another stimulus package, lets hold her to that! As slow as you guys run the government, that check would come right in time for Christmas! If we are going to do anything for the American Public we should be fighting in the arena of tightening the abuses of the monetary system by the banks. We should be attempting to make the process more fair for everyone. We should not be in "competition" with banks, with such federal programs like the FHA, or HUD. Let's fix this banking system to be fair for the consumer, and not overwhelmingly favorable for the banks. Our United States Constitution gives us the right to coin and maintain a monetary system. Why are you not fighting for the abolishment of the Federal Reserve, private banking system? This would give us more control over our Dollar. The US Dollar should be maintained by the US Government. By wasting time presenting these frivilous bills, you are continuing to expand government into an arena that it does not belong. As a republican, the conservative values your platform respresents are being overrun by the desire to expand and make government as big as possible. This is not acceptable. Thank you for your time.
Senator Dole's website only allows a 2500 word submission, so she did not get the full letter.
